Empowering Rural Gujarat with Sustainable Energy

In 2024, Global Foundation addressed the pressing need for reliable electricity in rural Gujarat, India, by donating solar power systems to D.B. Patel Vikas Vidhyalaya in Masa, Navsari district. This school, located in a disadvantaged area, faced challenges due to inconsistent grid power. The initiative aimed to provide energy independence and reduce electricity costs. After a thorough assessment of the school’s energy needs, the systems were tailored to meet their requirements. EKAM USA’s Baton Rouge, Louisiana chapter contributed 50% of the project funding.

Previously, in 2019, Global Foundation had supported the school by providing bunk beds for the girls’ hostel.

Building Local Capacity
This project extended beyond donating equipment. Collaborating with SEWA Rural and Vivekananda Gramin Tekniki Kendra (VGTK), a local vocational training center, the installation was carried out by skilled local technicians. This not only boosted the local economy but also offered hands-on training, enhancing the expertise of VGTK technicians in solar technology and establishing their credentials for future projects.

Towards a Sustainable Future
The commissioning process, including approvals from the Gujarat Electricity Board, ensured smooth and legal operation of the systems. By providing clean, sustainable energy, this initiative empowers students with the resources to succeed and supports the broader community’s development.

Supporting Vision and Training: Global Foundation’s Contribution to Divyajyoti Trust

In 2024, Global Foundation donated $18,265 to the Divyajyoti Trust in India, aiding the construction of a state-of-the-art eye hospital and training campus in Amalsadi, Gujarat. Located 3 kilometers from Mandvi, this project seeks to provide high-quality, affordable eye care to underserved communities while training future ophthalmic and paramedical professionals.

The ambitious $3.9 million initiative includes a 200-bed hospital and a training center for 180 students, set on a 4-acre campus. Global Foundation’s contribution funded a 600-square-foot classroom within the training center, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare, creating jobs, and supporting impactful philanthropic efforts.

Scheduled to begin operations in 2025, this classroom will help address India’s critical need for trained ophthalmic and paramedical personnel, furthering the trust’s mission to transform lives through better vision and healthcare.

Empowering Tribal Education: Global Foundation’s Partnership with BAPS Education Trust

In 2024, Global Foundation strengthened its commitment to education by partnering with BAPS Education Trust and Swami Ji at the Swaminarayan Sanskardham Schools in Ukai, Gujarat. Building on a $2,000 donation in 2018, we contributed $2,500 this year to support quality education for students in Gujarat’s tribal regions.

The Swaminarayan Sanskardham Schools play a pivotal role in delivering quality education while fostering moral values and a deep connection to Indian culture and traditions.
